Protein Shamrock Shakes and Other Fun, Green Food Perfect For St. Patrick’s Day

March 16, 2017 Food, Holidays

As you saw in my last post, we’re big on family traditions in the Houghton household! Along with dressing up and the fun pranks, one of my favorite things about St. Patrick’s Day is making (and eating…giggle!) lots of green food!

I have made so much green food over the years!! It has been SO FUN!! For just one day, forget the fact that you are pumping your family with green food coloring and enjoy their squeals!!

One staple green food that happens every year at our home is

The Protein Shamrock Shake!

It is so yummy and healthy! I’ll share my recipe with you as it is one I have made and tweaked  over many years! This is for one serving so just multiply for how many people you are serving:

Shamrock Protein Shake Recipe

Place all ingredients in a blender:

1 cup Almond Coconut Milk

1/4 cup cottage cheese (you won’t taste it and it makes it creamy like a milkshake!)

1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Designer Whey)

6-10 green grapes

2 teaspoons Stevia (or your favorite sweetener to taste)

Approximately 8 ice cubes

1/4-1/2 teaspoon Mint (not peppermint) extract (to taste)

2-3 drops green food coloring

Blend until desired consistency

Top with Whipped Topping and green sprinkles

If you think you can get away with it, throw in a small handful of spinach! My kids used to not taste it but they seem to detect it every time I try lately! UGH!

Other Fun, Green Food!

Green foods can be an all day occasion! From breakfast, to lunch, through snacks, and obviously dessert!

I have pulled a few of my favorite green food ideas for you to check out! These have all been tried and tested from fabulous Pinterest! I’ve linked where exactly they’re from so you can try them yourselves!
