If you’ve been following my Instagram, you’ll see that I’ve been posting sneak peaks of my peppermint wonderland!
One question I frequently get asked is, “How in the world do you come up with all your ideas, and how do you put it all together?!”
Honestly….the quick answer to that question is “buy items you LOVE – you know the ones that just make you smile – and build around them!” Sometimes I’ll see something as small as an ornament that gets me so excited that I ultimately design an entire room around it!
My daughter-in-law and I went to Hobby Lobby over the weekend and were walking through the isles getting inspiration for my entryway! I immediately zeroed in on one item that caught my eye, the wheels in my brain began to churn……and WOW! I’m not going to spoil the surprise…but I’m telling you, you will LOVE it! I actually just took a break from putting it up to write this post … so stay tuned!
I tell you this story because often you don’t just wake up in the middle of the night with an entire vision for a room and….poof….it appears! Giggle : ) Instead, things come together slowly at first and then turn into something beautiful….. usually piece by piece!
Take for instance, our kitchen table!
It may seem like a lot at first… but let’s break down the centerpiece and see how you can easily put together something similar on your own!!
You first want to start with a table runner!
You can start with a basic red table runner, and add some cute ribbon around the edges. Or, you can also find one that’s already festive and ready to go like this one, or this one!
Next, you’ll want to create a focal point. I love my cute peppermint gingerbread house, and you can find a similar one here!
For the rest of the table, it’s up to you! Just make sure to add enough height and volume and you’ll be good to go! I LOVE these cute little candy cane trees…seriously how adorable are they?! Candles are also a fun element to add to the table, because you can always light them and have a cozy candlelight dinner!
Finish off by sprinkling some snow all around, and it completes your peppermint wonderland!
Another way you can add a little extra excitement to a room is by decorating your light fixture! Not many people think of doing this, but it’s one of my favorite ways to add life to the room!
Something like this cute peppermint garland is an extremely simple way to create a similar look! You can always include your own additions as well, if you’d like to create a fuller look!
If you want to make your own just buy some basic garland, add some candy canes, and ornaments like these, and these! My main piece of advice when decorating garland, is the more the merrier! Creating a full look is key, and will make all the difference!
Hopefully this gives you a little inspiration! Remember, it just takes one piece of inspiration, and you can create a masterpiece!
