I let my kids choose whatever decor and theme they want for their rooms! I want it to be THEIR spaces where they can go to and feel safe and happy! We’ve had so much fun putting together McKenna Kates bedroom this past year, and when she came to me and asked if we could add a little bit of Christmas cheer, I of course said yes!!
You don’t have to add a lot to a space to bring in the feeling of Christmas! Mickey’s room has a more minimalist feel to it, so I wanted to be sure we kept true to that style.
Which item inspired the whole design of this room? These adorable light ornaments! I saw them in the store and decided then and there the whole room would be designed around them! I love how simple, yet colorful and happy they are!
So once we decided on a broad theme surrounding the light ornaments, it was time to design the rest!
I found this her tree at Walmart for only $39, can you believe it?! I love turning to Walmart for affordable, yet quality holiday decor. I snagged 5 of these trees for our enchanted forest in the Dining Room, and this was the perfect tree for Mickey’s room!

I found an adorable blue blanket in the store (similar here) that matched the blue light ornament, so I decided to tie the blue into the tree by adding some cute bows using a sparkly blue ribbon! Look how cute it was to tie a few of the light ornaments directly to the ribbon as well!
To tie the entire room together, we strung the light ornaments to a ribbon and created a DIY garland out of them. We draped the garland around the bed, and it became the perfect bridge between her bed and the tree!
The entire room cost under $100 to decorate for Christmas, and we absolutely love how it turned out! Mickey’s reaction when she saw the finished result made my heart so happy!
